Preschool Colors: Red Theme

age 2-3 colors preschool red Jan 24, 2021

Some call it tot school.  Some call it mommy or daddy and me.  I call it loads of fun!  Porter (a little over 2 years old) and I started our 2-3 year old preschool homeschool curriculum this past week and we both loved it!   This program is broken down into 4 quarters and for the first 9 weeks of the year, we will learn about colors.  Check out some highlights from our red week!

In case you were wondering what my floor looked like the day before we start a new lesson!

Our theme board for the week!

Over the course of the next 9 weeks, you will be learning about colors with your little one.  I think flashcards get a bad rap in the homeschooling world.  My days are not spent with my kids doing drills with these tiny cards.  We go on scavenger hunts through the grocery store with our food flashcards, we play I-spy with our household object cards while we walk through IKEA, and, like the above picture, we play simple matching games with our color flashcards.

Each week of our curriculum comes with a cover page so you can keep your little one's work neat and organized in a notebook or folder.

This little guy has been watching his sister build theme boards for almost a year now and he was so happy to finally get his own!  These coloring pages can be added to your interactive notebook afterward.

We snacked on lots of red things this week.   Raspberries, apple, beet, and carrot juice, and red peppers!

**Home CEO Hack**  Do you have a picky eater?  Don't give up! Try presenting new foods in different ways.  Your little lady won't eat avocado?  Toss some in her next smoothie!  Your little dude won't eat white beans?  Puree them and mix it in with mashed potatoes!  And, if all else fails, just call it something similar that they do like :)  ...Carrots were called sweet potato circles for a few months in our house!

We had a blast with our letter sound tubs.  This week, we focused on M and C.  Feel free to add any household items that your little one is familiar with too!

I guess its good to know Porter has 44 more weeks to practice his tracing skills!

Lexi, on the other hand, is a total pro!

Both of my children (and I!) love Eric Carle's books.  We read The Grouchy Ladybug and then made a ladybug of our own.

Porter has watched Kylie do hundreds of mazes like this.  All I had to do was tell him to color in the 1's and he went to town!

I believe there is an old proverb that says, "Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime. But give a little boy a glue stick, and you will be able to enjoy your coffee while it's still warm."

Here are a few of the other pages we added to his math notebook:

Color sorting!  We did this one every day this week; mixing it up with some small figures and LEGOs!

"Apple Math" may be Porter's new favorite activity!
